Election Information and Locations


Elections Are June 2, 2019


With the exception of the last election cycle, Neighborhood Council elections take place every two years. The elections are run by the Los Angeles City Clerk's office.

Election Guidelines

Each Neighborhood Council (NC) decides how many seats are on their Board and what the qualifications are for each seat.  In addition, their Bylaws state what the voter qualifications are and how each stakeholder will verify that they are eligible to vote.

Voters will verify their Stakeholder status through documentation.

Any stakeholder who is 16 years old (minimum) on election day and who lives, works, or owns property within the Del Rey NC boundaries is eligible to vote for:

  • President 
  • Vice-President 
  • Treasurer 
  • Secretary 
  • Outreach Officer 
  • Communications Officer

Stakeholders who live, work, own property/business or other community interest within any of the following areas and who are 16 years or older are eligible to vote for the following area director positions:

  • Area A Director 
  • Area B Director 
  • Area C Director 
  • Area D Director 
  • Area E Director 
  • Area F Director 
  • Area G Director 
  • Area H Director

The voting age is 18 years old.  All voters must verify their stakeholder status through written self affirmation.

  • The "Community" Director shall be elected by Stakeholders. 
  • The "At-large" Directors shall be elected by Stakeholders who live, work, or own property within the stated boundaries of the MVCC; and
  • The "Zone" Directors shall be elected by Stakeholders who live, work, or own property within their respective stated geographic Zone boundaries. 

Community Interest is defined as a person who affirms a substantial and ongoing participation within the Neighborhood Council’s boundaries and who may be in a community organization such as, but not limited to, educational, non-profit and/or religious organizations.

Stakeholders must be at least fourteen (14) years old to vote and will self-affirm their stakeholder status in order to vote.

Stakeholders 14 years or older can vote for:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary

  • Community-Based Organization Representative 
  • Business Representative
  • Youth Representative 

Stakeholders 14 years or older who reside in these specific residential areas can vote for:

  • Residential Representative, Area A 
  • Residential Representative, Area B 
  • Residential Representative, Area C 
  • Residential Representative, Area D 
  • Residential Representative, Area E

Venice

Any Stakeholder who is sixteen (16) years or older, or a junior or senior in high school, may vote. Voters will verify their stakeholder status by providing documentation acceptable to the City of Los Angeles and/or City Clerk—Election Division supporting that declaration. Community interest stakeholders will also be required to provide a form of documentation to substantiate their community interest claim. No voting by proxy is allowed.

Each non-community interest Voting Member shall be entitled to cast votes as follows:

  • One (1) Vote for President 
  • One (1) Vote for Vice President
  • One (1) Vote for Secretary
  • One (1) Vote for Treasurer
  • One (1) Vote for Communications Officer
  • One (1) Vote for Community Outreach Officer
  • One (1) Vote for Land Use and Planning Committee Chair
  • One (1) vote for only one (1) Community Officer. This may either be a Community interest Community Officer or a Community Officer.

Each community interest Voting Member shall be entitled to cast one (1) vote for a community interest Community Officer candidate.
